Ayden has had a fever since Tuesday but today was the first day that he has actually acted sick.
He took two morning naps today and a 2 hour afternoon nap. Sleeping it off!! |
Since he seems to be getting worse instead of better, and since we are going into the weekend, my gut told me I should take him to the doctor just to be safe. I wanted to rule out ear infections and such and also just needed a professional to confirm that our wait and see approach was the right thing to do.
Waiting to be called in to see the doctor. |
We saw a physician's assistant who was totally our kind of lady. As a warning she told me that she herself hasn't taken an antibiotic in 19 years and something has to be pretty serious for her to even prescribe one. It was actually pretty refreshing. Luckily Ayden's ears, throat and glands all checked out as normal. She said he just has a bad cold and/or perhaps a virus. She said to treat with Tylenol/Motrin as needed and to let him ride it out. We were glad to hear that!
David stopped and got a couple of Red Box movies on his way home. We ate dinner then snuggled in for family movie night.
Monster's University for Ayden! |
And Wolverine for us. We were supposed to go to a Green Living Fair tomorrow. Not only are there talks on everything from top bar bee hives and making mead to forest gardening and permaculture, but there are also all kinds of farm animals and other fun exhibits. Ayden LOVED it last year and we were looking forward to taking him this year while we learn even more about our farming endeavors. Since his fever was 102.4* when he went to bed tonight (the highest yet) we are thinking that David is going to have to go solo on this one so that Ayden and I can stay home while he continues to work on getting better. I gave him his first dose of Motrin before we put him to bed and I suppose his fever could finally and miraculously break overnight but we'll just have to see what the night brings.
Now Ayden is snoozing away, David and I are cuddling up on the couch, and I'm enjoying some baby wiggles while we start our movie. Even though our baby is sick, we still are having a pretty great night.
