It was misty rainy this morning so David put house building on hold and joined us at the farmer's market. Everyone there was so glad to see him! Afterward we went to a really delicious little pulled pork BBQ place for lunch. In lieu of a service bell they had a dog toy pig that you squeezed to let them know you were waiting at the counter. It grunted like a pig when you squeezed it so naturally, Ayden was a fan. After Ayden's nap, David went on out to the house and Ayden and I headed to the grocery store to stock up on fruit, snacks and such and we found the same pig toy!
We didn't bring one home with us but he enjoyed playing with it while we were there. |
Today's CSA haul |
Mystery item identified: Ground Cherries! cross between tomatoes and cherries. Different but delicious. |
They are good by themselves but I found that you can use them in jams, breads, pies, etc. Pretty cool! |
What's a gal to do when she sees a spaghetti squash in the box and is swimming in two week's worth of CSA tomatoes?? Homemade spaghetti sauce! I found a quick sauce recipe last year that I use as a base but I always bulk it up with other veggies and seasoning. Tonight's sauce, in addition to 3 different types of tomatoes, had onion, garlic, green pepper, zephyr squash, fresh basil, salt, pepper, dried oregano, dried parsley, sweet italian sausage and a tiny splash of maple syrup.
Put it over roasted spaghetti squash with a sprinkle of nutritional yeast. Ayden asked for seconds. |
Avocado chocolate pudding for dessert. Again, Ayden asked for seconds. |
David got home just in time to help put Ayden to bed by 7:45. He helped me with kitchen cleanup and now we're going to watch Gravity which I picked up from the Red Box at the grocery store. Today was a pretty typical Saturday so I suppose we are back to reality! It actually feels pretty good.
Have you ever made spaghetti sauce from scratch? What is your favorite recipe?

ReplyDeleteWe call those Mystery fruits gooseberries or Cape Gooseberries. They make brilliant jam and work wonderfully in pies :)
