I only crossed off a couple of things from my to do list today but I don't have a care in the world about it. We spent most of our day playing. I got all of the housework and laundry caught up enough on Monday and Tuesday to be able to easily maintain it today; so I decided to take it down a notch and just play. It was fun and wonderful! Ayden, of course, enjoyed it and I got some much needed fresh air and sunshine. We drew with sidewalk chalk, dug in the dirt, I pulled Ayden in his wagon, we played hide and seek and chase around the big trees in the yard. We walked down to see the horses, ran around with Maverick and played on the swing set. I really wish I could find a way to keep the "to do's" this manageable so that everyday can be as relaxed and go with the flow as today was. I could tell a big difference in the sense that I seemed to have as much energy and enthusiasm with Ayden at bedtime as I did earlier in the day. I suppose that is what a day of play can do for you! Usually, after a day of entertaining Ayden on top of doing a bunch of housework, I am tired and can't always muster my pep at the end of the day. But tonight, I even delayed putting Ayden to bed because we were still having so much fun together. Having a dance party to the demos on his keyboard and pointing out friends and family in his photo album.
Someday some mother out there will find the secret and will share it with the rest of us. Until then, I keep coming around to the idea that simplicity is the key. The smaller our living space and the less STUFF we have in it will mean less we'll have to take care of, and thus, the more time we will have to actually LIVE LIFE. Seems logical to me... We are striving to live more simply through this homesteading endeavor so I suppose we will find out soon enough.

What are your secrets? Any other mother out there have a system so reliable that everyday is just maintenance and FUN?

Oh how I wish I had that system. Trying to balance everything just exhausts me.
