They finally harvested all of the corn that has bed surrounding us during our stay at this cozy little cottage. We had mixed feelings about it because corn like this typically has 3 uses: 1) feed for animals that are not supposed to eat grains. It makes them sick and in turn, makes us sick. You can watch the documentary Food Inc. for more info on that. 2) Ethanol, which may not be as great as was once thought (we also aren't supporters of mono-cropping for lots of reasons). And lastly, 3) Good ol' high fructose corn syrup, which is one of the leading culprits for America's obesity epidemic. We also weren't too excited the day they put up their signs letting the world know which chemicals had recently been sprayed (months ago) across acre upon rolling acre of the corn surrounding us; but what are you gonna do? It is not our responsibility to control the actions/decisions of others, just our own. As much as we didn't really support the fate or care of the corn, it sure did make a beautiful view and added an extra measure of privacy. It is so weird to drive up our driveway with so much open space around us!
Ayden thought the leftover cobs and husks were amazing treasures. Every time we came to one (which was very often since they are everywhere) he'd ask, "Wasis?" We'd tell him, he'd repeat it and put it in his wagon.
Oh to be so fascinated by such simple things.
It is getting darker earlier and earlier. My least favorite part of winter is all of the darkness. I'm a fan of the long days of summer for sure! We walked all the way to my parents' house and back before getting Ayden off to bed. We also started the Beta round of T-25 today. We are half way done with the program!! I will do a full review once we get through the whole thing.
What are your thoughts on all of this corn that seems to be taking over the world? On our drive to Wisconsin over the summer we saw corn field after soybean field after corn field after soybean field... You get the idea.
