How To: Rainy Day Rain Stick

We have a lot of rain coming up in our forecast.  Not that I am complaining because I'll take warm rain over cold and snow right now for sure!  Even so, we were still stuck inside so I decided we should have some rainy day fun.

First, we read a book called Rabbits & Raindrops, talked about the rain and then sang a few rain related songs while we made a rainstick!  The best part was that it was made from items we already had around the house so it was FREE.

Supplies:
paper towel tube
push pin
toothpicks
cutting tool (to trim toothpicks)
school glue
circles cut from thick paper (circumference larger than that of tube)
filler (we used dried beans and rice)
hot glue gun

Step 1: Take the push pin and use the seam in the paper towel tube as a guide and pike holes all the way down.

Step 2: stick a toothpick in each hole

(Marvel at how "it looks so sharp!")

Step 3: trim the points off of all of the toothpicks

Step 4: use school glue to seal up all of the holes.

Step 5: glue one of the paper circles on one end.

Step 6: Pour in your filler until it is about 1/3 of the way full.

Step 7: add the second circle to close it up and you're done!

And just because he's super cute:
