"Here You Go"

Ayden's current favorite chore is helping us unload the dishwasher.

Don't mind the lack of pants... We've been making potty progress!!
He says, "Here you go, mommy" (actually more like, "Heyado, Mommy!") for every. single. item. he hands me and it is beyond adorable.  It takes a long time to get the job done but I love the pride he so obviously feels to be helping me do real things.

Kids like to pretend but when doing so, they are really practicing. They are honing in on skills they observe their adults using in our everyday lives.  They do this in hopes that one day they'll be able to do whatever they are prentending for real.

Handing me papers as the come out of the printer.

Mastering the art of walking in thigh high boots.  Haha.
It is so hard to make simple tasks take longer than necessary when we have so much to do and so many places to be.  Believe me, I know!  But our children benefit so greatly when we allow them to do real things with us. They get the interaction and connection they are always craving and can truly sense purpose and pride. They gain confidence when you trust them with a glass mug or let hem "clean" up a spill with a little towel. Pretending and toys are nice but nothing is more engaging or educational than being in the trenches right there with you.

What chores does your toddler love to help with?
