Already Mommy

Today was pretty great!  David took Ayden for a little nature walking, park playing and grocery buying time:

While I had a low key, restful day with this guy:

He had two pretty long awake periods today. One in the morning around 10 or so and the other in the evening at around 7:30. It was fun to interact with him more!

Reading Look, Look! to him.
Great high contrast book! He was mesmerized.

I also got started on his newborn photos. I figured I'd take some here and there over the course of this week.

He is gettin chunky!  We have a midwife appointment on Wednesday and I am hoping to hear that he has passed his birthweight so I can start letting him tell me when he wants to be fed at night. As of right now I am setting an alarm for every two hours and I know he'd go 3 or 4 hour stretches if I'd let him. He is really hard to wake up!

Something else that happened that's a pretty big deal is that his umbilical stump fell off yesterday!

No more stinky belly...
Ayden is so in love with his baby brother and the transition has been smoother than I could have ever hoped.

I think it helps that Logan has been a very mellow, low maintainance baby so far.

Plus, I think Ayden is enjoying having all of the baby gear around!

So far I am feeling very good. I've only had one hormonally induced emotional moment that was actually triggered by Ayden having a rough day behaviorally (cabin fever does not suite any of us well). Overall my baby blues have been very mild compared to what I experienced with Ayden. I think it is a combination of already going through it all once (when you have your first you kind of have to rediscover your whole identity, this time I was already Mommy), conquoring the birth I set out to achieve and having an easier baby. We have also been better about accepting help this time and have greatly benefited from our freezer meals and such that I prepared ahead of time. Overall, we were just more prepared this time around and it just isn't as overwhelming as it was the first.

Flashback!  Here's what we were up to one year ago today: "Into The Wild"

  2. What sweet moments! I've been following your blog for over a year and I'm so thrilled that my baby girl was born on 9/9 just like your Logan, though I had the traditional hospital birth. Zoey's stump hasn't fallen off yet but hopefully soon so we can get newborn photos taken. Treasure these moments, however exhausting... They really do fly by so fast.

  3. I am so happy to hear the baby blues have been much better this second time around. I also felt like I had to figure out my new identity as a mom so I can understand how already having that part down would make this new transition smoother. I also wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading about your experiences. You are an incredible mother and wife to your family and honestly a good role model for me as silly as that may sound. I am always taking notes on how your family lives simply and enjoys the simple things in life rather than getting caught up in all the social norms. Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Congrats again on baby Logan!

  4. My sister that had a baby the day after Logan was born is having a good time too! She's having to wake him up too to nurse, he's a great sleeper so far!
