Ground Breaking News

We broke ground today!

standing on our "front porch!"
Well... the excavation guys did anyway.

Welcome to our future home!
The driveway.
They just did top soil removal in the drive way and basement walk out then dug about 2 feet down for the basement.  We have two huge mounds of topsoil that we'll make raised garden beds out of and then the rest that will be dug from the basement will be used as slopes all around the house.
David and Ayden looking into the hole that will be our basement.
When I sent the driveway pictures to David while he was at work today he said his stomach did a flip.  This is just so exciting.  Here is the beginning of our future homestead and we could not be happier at the moment.  We know there are plenty of road blocks and bumps ahead but we also know that we will learn valuable lessons from them and our future selves will be better people for it.  We are going to be putting a lot of our own blood, sweat, tears, time and love into this endeavor and all of that will make it that much more special to us.

They almost blocked my bee hives!
The flight path for the bees will be between these two mounds of dirt for a while...
Ayden had a TODDLER day of a day today.  From the moment he woke up it seemed like anything and everything I did or said to him resulted in an epic meltdown.  Sheesh!  Maverick had a grooming appointment at 9 so I put my hair back wet, and got out of the house for the day.

Napping at Habitat For Humanity Restore.
We plan to start out with a lot of stuff from these stores in our house.
There's nothing a little sanding and some paint can't spruce up!
In pregnancy related news, I picked up some of this today:

At my last midwife appointment, somehow we got on the topic of teeth and cavities.  I told my midwife that I have had more cavities since Ayden's birth than ever before in my life.  She told me that he probably leached calcium from my stores.  Apparently that is very common and one culprit of osteoporosis later in a woman's life.  She recommended that I pick up this specific supplement to add to my daily regime (from what I understand, there is a wrong kind of calcium that you can take like that found in Tums.  She said she can tell just by looking at the calcium buildup on a placenta if a mother took too many Tums while she was pregnant).  I just follow that dosage recommendation on the bottle (1 Tbsp a day).  It has a really chalky texture but the flavor is not too bad.  Other than that, there is no other pregnancy related updates.  Just smooth sailing for now and I'm just waiting for a bump that's worth showing off.  I really popped at around 20 weeks with Ayden so I'm sure it'll happen very soon.

Have you ever built a house?  What lessons did you learn the hard way?  Any advice?

Flashback!  Here's what we were up to one year ago today: "30 Days"
